Student Testimonies

Elizabeth
Entered Teen Challenge February 2008

ElizabethBefore I came to Teen Challenge in Brooklyn I had been addicted to heroin. I started using drugs at about the age of 18 and over time my drug use got worse and worse. I started to steal and do whatever I had to do to get drugs. I eventually ended up getting in trouble and had to go to prison for 15 months. While I was in prison, my mom talked with the pastor of our church and they helped me get into Teen Challenge.

Since I have been here God has given me a new chance at life. I’ve seen changes in my attitude and I am starting to restore relationships with my family and with God. I am learning the when I do have problems God will help me through them. I am a changed woman and I can finally say that I am no longer addicted to drugs, my relationship with the Lord is getting stronger each day, and I am happy about my life.

After I complete the program I would like to return home to my son and my family. I want to be the best mother I can be for my son. I would like to go to college and become an elementary school teacher. I know that God has a plan for my life and I want to follow that plan and continue to grow and mature in my Christian walk.

Cesar
Entered Teen Challenge January 2008

CesarBefore I came to Teen Challenge in Brooklyn I was in jail for stabbing someone. I lived my life for the flesh, addicted to drugs and a member of a gang. I now understand how blessed I was when the judge sent me to Teen Challenge in Brooklyn.

Since I have been at Teen Challenge the Lord has given me the ability to learn how to read and write. The Lord has shown me how to stop cursing and speak so that I may glorify Him. Most of all, the Lord has shown me how much he Loves me. The Lord he has allowed me to stop worrying and place everything in His hands.

After I complete the program I pray that the Lord continue to work in my life and allow me to yield to His will. I pray the Lord show me how to be a Godly husband and father. I pray the Lord bless me with work that may glorify Him. I pray the Lord bring me closer to my family. I also pray that the Lord continue to lead me in His path and bless me with the understanding of his Word. I pray that others will see Christ in me.

Chasity
Entered Teen Challenge February 2008

Chasity I grew up in an abusive environment and it seemed to carry over to my adult life. I got pregnant when I was 15 and started abusing drugs not long after that. I started smoking marijuana and I also used cocaine and ecstasy. My mother finally kicked me out of the house and kept my son. I ended up getting involved in prostitution and desperately wanted to get my life together so I talked to my cousin who had went through Teen Challenge and she helped me get into the program.

Since I have been here at Teen Challenge God is showing me that I don’t have to try and be someone that I am not. He loves me just the way I am and in His strength, all things are possible. I am learning how to make healthy friends and how to have boundaries in my life. God has shown me that He wants to have a relationship with me and that He loves and cares for me. My relationship with the Lord is getting stronger each day.

After I complete the program I pray the God will restore my relationship with my son so that we can be a family again. I want to find a home church to get involved in so that I can continue to grow in the Lord. I would also like to go back to college to become a lawyer.

Aaron
Entered Teen Challenge January 2008

AaronBefore I came to Teen Challenge in Brooklyn I was addicted to crystal meth, pharmaceuticals, and marijuana. I was full of hate, violence, and hopelessness. I was constantly in trouble and was unable to see any significance in my life. I asked my parents for help and they told me about Teen Challenge.

Since I have been at Teen Challenge the Lord has shown me that my life is not insignificant. God has replaced my feelings of hatred, fear, and despair with peace in Jesus. He has given me hope in Him and a brand new perspective on life. He has shown me that He loves me.

After I complete the program I would like to serve the Lord full time. God has placed desires in my heart that I could have never imagined possible. I pray the Lord continues to work on and in me. I pray the Lord show me a ministry to serve Him in. I also pray that the Lord make His will for my life clear to me. I know the Lord has great plans for me and I pray He continues to open his path to me and protect me from sin.

Kerry
Entered Teen Challenge December 2007

KerryBefore I came to Teen Challenge in Brooklyn I was addicted to drugs and alcohol. I could not make it through a day of work without drugs and alcohol. I was miserable and lost. When I gave up all hope and almost took my own life God led me to call Teen Challenge.

Since I have been at Teen Challenge my relationship with God has grown so strong. Today I believe I am a true child of God and not an orphan. I am grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given me; He continues to work on my character while I am here. The Lord has given me an abundance of grace and has shown me that His love is free and not based on my past performance.

After I complete the program I pray that the Lord fulfill His purpose in me and see his perfect plan for me to fruition. I would like to serve the Lord in full time ministry helping others who suffer from addiction. I would consider it a blessing and privilege to be used as an intern at Teen Challenge. I pray that the Lord give me his guidance to see His will for my life. Most of all I pray the Lord keep me free from addiction for the rest of my life
